#2-1979 Highlights Willie McCovey

Even though its listed as a night game I think watched this homer. Then manager Giants; Joe Altobelli pinch-hit for Johnni LeMaster-thankfully-with McCovey. Then Pirates manger Chuck Tanner pulled right hander Bruce Kison with the lefty Grant Jackson. Jackson threw a breaking pitch to McCovey who was fooled and even though he hit the ball with one hand he was still was able to get enough power behind his swing to knock the ball over the wall. He was pretty good. :)
Even when the record was broken I still thought that it was a little obscure I mean most career homers by a National League lefty.
The card itself looks like it was taken during Spring Training against the Padres.

#-1 1979 Highlights Brock/Yaz

Not a bad start to a set with two future Hall of Famers in Carl Yastrzemski  and Lou Brock being noted on card # 1 for each reaching 3,000 hits. While Yaz is those awful Red Sox uniforms of the 70's I have to admit I still love those old Cards uni that Brock is wearing. This would also be Brock's last appearance on a Topps card since he announced beforehand that 1979 would be his last season therefore no individual card was made for him. In 79 Brock hit .304 and stole 21 bases. Not a bad end for one of the greats.
